As the Society of Imaging Informatics’ (SIIM’s) National Imaging Informatics Course (NIIC) approaches, Vega Imaging Informatics President and CEO Luke Bideaux, is sharing the top four reasons why imaging informaticists and healthcare professionals should consider becoming Certified Imaging Informatics Professionals (CIIPs). CIIP is a certification provided by the American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII), signifying expertise in managing and utilizing imaging data within healthcare systems. While the NIIC is not specifically tailored toward CIIP test preparation, the curriculum is packed with numerous foundational concepts in imaging informatics that new IIPs can use to build from as they continue on their journey to certification.
All imaging informaticists and healthcare professionals seeking to gain baseline understanding or advance their knowledge of imaging informatics and invest in their careers should register to participate in the NIIC, an accelerated, week-long online experience. Participants will not only gain increased understanding of imaging informatics, but also increased confidence, effectiveness and value in the ever-changing imaging informatics and healthcare fields.
If you’re wondering why you should become a CIIP, here are the top four reasons!
Gaining certification allows you to:
1.) Maximize your earning potential as an Imaging Informatics Professional (IIP): There is no doubt that gaining certification will increase an imaging informaticist or healthcare professionals’ odds of professional development, whether that means earning a promotion or landing a new position at another organization. While some organizations place a higher importance on certification than others, whether an imaging informaticist or healthcare professional has earned certification could be a deciding factor for hiring managers when making decisions about external candidate selection or internal promotion opportunities.
2.) Demonstrate that you are a well-rounded IIP: The journey to gaining certification is, in some ways, more important than the certification itself, as it forces self-reflection and allows for the identification of areas for self-growth or professional development. By earning certification and becoming a more well-rounded IIP, you will be able to grow professionally and learn ways to adapt to the ever-changing imaging informatics field.
3.) Align with the American College of Radiology (ACR), American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), and SIIM technical standards for the Electronic Practice of Medical Imaging (ACR-AAPM-SIIM): The ACR-AAPM-SIIM Technical Standards for Electronic Practice of Medical Imaging explicitly include the CIIP qualification as a recognized standard for demonstrating competency in the field of imaging informatics, meaning that individuals meeting the CIIP certification requirements are considered qualified within the scope of these standards.
4.) Maximize your ability to serve patients: Gaining certification will maximize your ability to serve patients to the fullest, which, for many IIPs, is the most important aspect of their careers.
NIIC will take place from March 17-21st. Join Luke Bideaux, as he moderates the “Is Medicine Ready for Gen AI?” session on Wednesday, March 19th from 12-1pm (EST).
