This episode, How AI Is Empowering Imaging Informaticists, features Vega President and CEO, Luke Bideaux, and Michael Danson, CEO of IES Advisors, a consulting firm focused on providing tools and services that healthcare enterprises need to be successful in medical imaging. In this episode, Luke and Michael discuss how artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the role of imaging informaticists professionals amid growing enterprise imaging demands, staffing shortages, and interoperability challenges, answering the overall question: can AI help informaticists do more, and do it better? The conversation highlights four areas in which AI has changed the day-to-day reality of the imaging informatics profession, including: workflow orchestration, data management and de-identification, integration troubleshooting, and custom tool development.
While AI will continue to reshape the imaging informatics field, both Luke and Michael believe that the profession will also continue to evolve rather than go extinct— informaticists roles will shift from routine ticket resolution and “keeping the ship afloat” to that of systems architects and innovators. As Michael advises in the video, “I think the most important thing that a IIP can do is embrace [AI]. Don’t shy away from it. Maybe it’s not something you understand today, but it’s not going away. So, embrace the technology, get comfortable with the technology [and] as long as you’re embracing the technology, and you’re growing with the technology, that’s where you need to be. I’ve embraced it and I’m using it to the best of my abilities as a subject matter expert.”
